5/10/07 The purpose of this Blog, or any, is to help you the jobseeker find work. We interview 600 plus people a year so we know what to look for in an applicant. This will come off as a pet peeve but take it to heart. PLEASE ONLY APPLY TO A JOB THAT YOU ARE QUALIFIED FOR. Listen, I have been unemployed before myself, and I know that you feel, that given the opportunity to prove yourself, that you can do any job. I feel the same way too, but when someone posts a specific job, they want to see relevant skills and experience. Too often I hear from clients that they received a ton of resumes but only a handful of qualified candidates. I see it every day too. Heck, I even have postings that plead to only have qualified candidates apply and this does not deter the few who feel they need to apply to a senior accounting job when their only experience is a college level course, and sometimes not even that. Trust me; you are not going to get the job, so focus your attention on the jobs that you can get… the ones you are qualified for. If you are not qualified for them, and want the job, work to get the necessary education or experience required, then, and only then, apply. If you just want to send a resume for general consideration, then do just that. Put it in the subject line that you are not applying for any one job, but would like to submit your resume for future reference. It will be much more effective than being disregarded and junked if they open up your resume on a specific posting and find you have 0% of what they are looking for. That actually creates animosity, which is the last thing you want a potential employer to feel towards you. Best of luck on your job search, and if there is anything we can do, Email us a question.

5/3/07 The last few weeks we have been inundated with requests for Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Inventory, Reception, and senior level Accounting professionals. Today alone we had 6 people interviewing for 3 different career opportunities, never mind the 4 on Wednesday. If you are looking for work, or are looking to make a change in your career, email us your resume pronto. One lady interviewed with us at 11AM, and then with a client of ours at 4PM the same day. Does it work for everyone like that? No. But, that person could be you. How will you know if you do not submit your resume to us? The weeks ahead tell us it is the “Summer Holiday Coverage” season.

4/8/07 Pet Peeve: For someone who sees over 50 resumes every week, 52 weeks a year, here is some valuable advice for job seekers. If you are serious about your job search and your email address is something you and your friends find cute i.e. superhappyfungirl (at) hotmail (dot) com or fragglemunkeyman@yahoo.ca, save those for just that, your friends. Yahoo and Hotmail addresses are free so set yourself up a professional sounding email address for your job search. How hard is that to do? Employers do not want to read that you are super, hot, funny, cuteypie, sweety, et al. … they are looking for someone that can come in for 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, and contribute to the growth of their organization. You have a name, use it. Jasmir (at) yahoo (dot) ca looks a lot more professional than hotsuffsuperfungirl99@gmail.com. You work so hard to go to school, upgrade your skills, or put in years at a low paying job to get the experience you need to advance your career, so do not tank it with a ridiculous email address that makes you look like a buffoon and not a professional. It is the little things that may be preventing you from getting your dream job and you have only yourself to blame. For those that are serious about their career and want that next great job, visit our Jobs tab and make sure The Right Fit Staffing Solutions Inc. is in your corner to help you.

3/20/07 Here is an example of how an agency like The Right Fit Staffing Solutions can help you. This morning I interviewed a candidate that had a unique skill set in administration. As our job requires us to contact hundreds of hiring managers in every possible industry, by doing so, you get to know what each company does, and what skill sets they would look for. I knew her skills were the right fit for a particular client of ours. Phoning the client I was disappointed to hear that they had no current available positions but they would keep her in mind. Twenty minutes later that same client called. Another department had snatched one of their employees and indeed they had an opening in the department. She is going for an interview on Thursday morning. Does it always work this way? No. For some, they either find work on their own before an agency can find them work, or some have skills that the market is not currently demanding. But, for many, The Right Fit can find them that next great job.

2/27/07 It is early in 2007 and the job market in BC has never been hotter in recent memory. If you are looking for permanent work, or temporary work opportunities, in the greater Vancouver area, or in BC in general, now is a great time to be looking. Employers are looking for great people to fill professional, or highly skilled, roles whether it be in legal, engineering, accounting, technical administrative support, or labor and trades, et al, as there is a skilled labor shortage. Will everyone find a job? No. But certainly there are greater opportunities now for employment in the greater Vancouver area than there were only a few years ago, and it does not look to be ending anytime soon. So how do you find a job? Along with your usual Internet website and newspaper searches, try an employment agency. Employment agencies are a free service to candidates and are focused on finding as many jobs for candidates that interview with them as possible, because that is how they make their income. So, for a couple of hours of your time interviewing and evaluating with The Right Fit Staffing Solutions Inc., you can have a team of professionals scouring the job market on your behalf, for free. Coupled with your own job search it should not be long until the Right Fit comes your way.
